Bhutan is a beautiful country and has been one of my favourite places to visit on my worldly travels. It is a landlocked country in South Asia located in the Eastern Himalayas. It is bordered by China in the North and India in the west, east and south. It is the second least populated country in South Asia at around 818,000. The country’s landscape ranges from lush subtropical plains in the south to the sub-alpine Himalayan mountains in the north, where there are peaks in excess of 7,000 metres (23,000 ft). There are so many mountain peaks and the highest mountain in Bhutan is the Gangkhar Puensum, which is also a strong candidate for the highest unclimbed mountain in the world.

You will find that Bhutan has a very diverse climate and it can vary quite a bit depending on what part of the country you are in. In the south, the climate is more of a subtropical climate where the highlands have more of a temperate. The north has a polar-type climate with year-round snow. You will experience all four seasons in Bhutan with the added monsoon season too.

Bhutan is also known for its amazing wildlife. It has an abundance of primate species including the rare Golden Langur. In the south, you can find Bengal Tigers, clouded leopards and the sloth bear. In other areas, you can also find the Himalayan Black Bear, the Red Panda and the Barking Deer. And in the north, you can find Snow Leopards, Tibetan Wolves and Musk Deer. The Takin is Bhutan’s national animal and is a variety of water buffalo.

The country of Bhutan is a truly beautiful country and is a place that I would highly recommend that you visit if you enjoy meeting people from very different cultures to your own and have a passion for the great outdoors. You will encounter some of the freshest air you will breathe into your body, 78% of the country is covered in trees and the rest is made up of farmland, mountains and small towns.
