The Gift Of Photography – Why you should buy a print as a gift.

It’s not the first thing most people think of when they are looking for a gift for a friend, family member or work colleague. But when an occasion warranting a gift arises, I think you should give serious consideration to a beautiful photograph to hang on a person’s wall. Whether it’s a house warming gift, a wedding gift or a birthday present, it’s will always be well received.

A beautiful photographic print really catches your eye when you see it. Whether or not you feel that you are into photography, you can still be moved by a beautiful photograph. A photograph can stir up great memories for a person, maybe it was taken where they grew up or where they spent their childhood holidays. The gift of a photographic print can be a very rewarding thing. It’s not a common thing to give as a gift but it can be a very personal gift to give. It will hang on their wall for many years to come and it will be shared with everyone that comes into their home.

I suppose for most people, the challenge of purchasing a photograph as a gift is deciding what to choose. Maybe they already have a bit of a collection or maybe this will be their first one. Either way, it doesn’t need to be a challenge and I’m here to help you through the process.

You have to remember, it’s not for you, it’s for them. You have to understand that this photo is not for you and you should keep that in mind when choosing the right photo. It should be something that may match the style of their home or many it should be a complete mismatch depending on the decor of their home. For example, is the home furnished in a very modern style with muted colours or is eclectic with bright colours. This will help you choose the right photograph for your gift.

Another issue that you might come up against is what size should the finished piece be? This can be difficult but if its for a close friend it’s likely that you have been to their home and you will have a good idea if they have room for a large or smaller photo. This might be a topic to discuss with the photographer that you are buying the photograph from. He would have much more experience as to what might be the right size to purchase.

Last but not least, you will need to decide how to present the photograph. Should be framed in a contemporary white frame, maybe a stretched canvas or even the more modern acrylic face mount. Again this might come down to the style of home that it will hang in. An older style home that may have more antique/rustic furniture may opt for a stretch canvas, where a very modern home might suit the acrylic face mount. If you think that it may just be too hard a decision you might like to go for a gift voucher so that your friend or loved one can choose their own photograph and also how they would like it presented. The voucher can be very specific and can include the printing, framing and even shipping if you want to make sure that there are no extra fees passed on to the recipient.

I hope this short blog post helps you just a little bit in the decision process. I believe that there is no better compliment to your photography that when somebody spends their very hard earned money to buy one of your photos to hang in their home. I look forward to helping you with any future purchases of my photos.
